Sayville-Bayport School Budgets Approved, Trustees Elected

SAYVILLE-BAYPORT, NY — Residents in both the Sayville and Bayport-Blue Point School Districts voted to approved their 2021-21 school budgets on Tuesday.

In Sayville, the budget was passed by a margin of 997 to 258.

The $96.9 million budget is a 0.80 percent increase over the current year and includes a 0.61 percent increase in the school tax levy, within the state's tax cap.

Incumbents Carl Cangelosi, Keith Kolar, and John Verdone, who all ran unopposed for seats on the school board.

The school board vote breakdown:

Carl Cangelosi - 1,010 votes

Keith Kolar - 1,009 votes

John Verdone - 1,007 votes

In Bayport-Blue Point, the budget was passed by a margin of 915 to 350.

However, the proposition to authorize the district to reduce the district's current mileage limitation for transporting resident students in grades K-5 to the district's elementary schools from the current 1.23 miles to 1.15 miles and be further authorized to reduce the district’s current mileage limitation for transporting resident students in grades 6-12 to the Bayport-Blue Point High School and Middle School from the current 2.0 miles to 1.8 miles effective at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year at the cost of $91,595, failed.

There were 686 for No and 572 votes for Yes.

The $76.9 million budget is a 1.81 percent increase over the current year and includes a 2.94 percent increase in the school tax levy, within the state's tax cap.

Julia Pendola and Adrienne Cirone both won seats on the school board.
