• Police: Off-shore rescue saves lives (timesreview.com) — Shelter Island police, fire, and EMS pulled two people and a dog from icy waters off Shell Beach on Monday, after all three were stranded about 100 feet offshore in frigid, dangerous conditions. Working from both land and a police boat, responders brought everyone to safety and sent the two individuals to Eastern Long Island Hospital for evaluation. More details are expected later this week.
