1 Arrested At 'Rally Against Hate' Outside LI High School: Police
Officers responded to the school after someone "became disruptive" and they were asked to leave on Tuesday night, Suffolk police say.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A person was arrested at the Rally Against Hate protest at William Floyd High School on Tuesday night, Suffolk police said.
Officers were called to the location on Mastic Road in Mastic Beach at around 7:40 p.m. when a person "became disruptive" inside the school and the district's security asked them to leave, but the person refused, according to police.
The person, a 28-year-old from Manhattan, was charged with disorderly conduct and disrupting a lawful assembly, both violations.

The rally was organized by the LGBT Network in support of a student who has been identified as transgender and has ties to a track team, News 12 reported.
The group's president David Kilmnick told the outlet the bullying the student faced needed to be met with a show of love and support, adding, "The power of love. The power of activism is strong. When we come together and do what we did tonight, we’re going to shut these hate groups down.”

An April 2 protest saw supporters of the team, who were against the student's participation, according to the outlet.
Kilminick disputed that an arrest took place at the rally, instead saying that the rally was peaceful and ended at around 7:15 p.m.
A spokesman for the William Floyd School District did not respond to a request for comment.
