2 Shootings Within Minutes Of Each Other In Mastic Investigated: Cops

The shootings activated ShotSpotter, and shell casings were found within blocks of each other, Suffolk police say.

MASTIC, NY — Suffolk police now say detectives are investigating two separate shootings in which shell casings were found within minutes of each other in Mastic on Wednesday morning, Suffolk police said.

ShotSpotter was first activated at the intersection of Somerset Avenue and Robinwood Street at 1:50 a.m., and a shell casing was found, according to police.

ShotSpotter was also activated, and shell casings found on nearby Pawnee Avenue between Bullard Street and Hawthorne Avenue at around 1:54 a.m., police said.

There were no reported injuries.

Det. Mathias Arnold is asking that residents forward any vehicle or pedestrian traffic between 1:45 a.m. and 2:10 a.m. that was captured on their camera systems to him. He can be reached by email at mathias.arnold@suffolkcountyny.gov.

Any assistance will be appreciated, according to Arnold.

Investigators are "hoping to prevent any future similar acts from occurring," he said.
