ALDI's Latest LI Store Opens Wednesday
The new location is part of the German grocer's national expansion which now includes over 2,000 stores in 37 states.

SHIRLEY, NY — The German-owned ALDI grocery store will open its latest Long Island location in Shirley on Wednesday as part of the company’s aggressive national expansion now including over 2,000 stores in 37 states, officials stated in a news release.
The store, which is located on Montauk Highway, will have a soft opening on Wednesday, but there will be socially-distanced ribbon-cutting ceremony starting at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. After that, the store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
"On occasion we are able to soft open stores ahead of the official grand opening date when the location is ready ahead of schedule," officials said in a statement on Tuesday. "We always jump at the opportunity to open our doors early so we can start serving the community. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused."

The chain, which is on track to become the third-largest U.S. grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022, is "intentionally different, with a focus on offering shoppers the best products at the lowest possible prices," officials said.
Chris Daniels, South Windsor regional vice president for ALDI, called the grocery chain one of America’s fastest-growing retailers because it offers "a convenient shopping experience for affordable, on-trend, and sustainable goods."
“We have served this community for more than 10 years and look forward to continuing to offer Shirley residents high-quality, fresh foods and low prices in every ALDI aisle, every day,” he said.

ALDI stores — designed for simplicity and efficiency — are typically 2,000-square-feet of retail space, which makes it easier to navigate than traditional grocery stores, and they feature open ceilings and natural lighting, officials said. They are built with environmentally-friendly materials, according to the news release.
The grocery chain is "focused on ensuring that stores are stocked with the food and household essentials that customers need, including healthy, convenient options and a robust selection of produce delivered fresh to stores daily," officials said.
