Arrest After Woman, 71, Hurt In Hit-And-Run Crash In Middle Island: Police

She was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Suffolk police say.

MIDDLE ISLAND, NY — A 71-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after a hit-and-run crash in Middle Island on Sunday morning, Suffolk police said.

The woman's 2021 Ford SUV was struck by a 2020 Nissan sedan at the intersection of Birchwood Drive and Middle Country Road just after 11 a.m., and the other driver, a 21-year-old from Ridge, bolted on foot, according to police.

The woman, who is from Middle Island, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The Ridge man was found a short time later and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, a misdemeanor.

His arraignment information was not available.
