  1. A woman passed away Sunday morning after her 2003 Chevrolet crashed into a fence on Long Island Expressway near the Floyd exit ramp to Express Drive North. She had her 1-year-old daughter as a passenger. The baby was transported to the Peconic Bay Medical Center to be treated and, later, was released to a relative. (Patchogue Patch)
  2. A bald eagle was found injured in South Haven Park in Shirley. The is a suspicion that the bird suffered from the avian flu. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is waiting for the test results. Another eagle was found dead in December under similar circumstances. (Shirley-Mastic Patch)
  3. Save the date for the return of the Brookhaven is Back! The event kicks off on Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Brookhaven Town Hall. Town officials will be on post to answer questions about how the town can support local businesses. (Moriches CofC)
  4. Dr. Sanjey Gupta from the South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore stated in an interview with Patch that pot-related visits to the ER had increased in the last five years across emergency rooms on Long Island. Read the whole story here. (Patch)
