Here are the top four stories in Shirley-Mastic today:
- The holiday season brings Christmas and Hanukkah events to the Shirley-Mastic area. Four-holiday gatherings are coming to town next week. Visit the link to find out where and when to go to enjoy the magic of the season in the community. (Patch)
- Mastic Fire Department is hosting its Annual Tree Lighting event on Friday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. Santa Claus will make an appearance. Refreshments will be served while the William Floyd High School Choir performs at the tree on Mastic Road and Poospatuck Lane. (Mastic Fire Department Via Social Media)
- Santa Claus will be at the Longwood Estate on Dec. 3. The Town of Brookhaven hosts this event which features an old fashioned sleigh rides, food and, of course, photos with Santa! Tickets are $5 per child. (Patch)
- A new holiday attraction is now open! The Christmas House Long Island is at the Smith Haven Mall and expects to host over 100,000 visitors in the Christmas season. (LI News 12)

- Lake Pointe Clubhouse is hosting a Holiday Boutique/Craft Fair on Dec. 3-4. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Clubhouse is at New York 25 and Picasso Way, Middle Island, for those interested in finding unique gifts for the season. (Patch)
- The Yaphank Historical Society is offering holiday open house tours the weekend of Dec. 10 at the Robert and Isabella Hawkins House, The Booth House Museum, and The Homan-Gerard House." (Patch)
- The high costs of food, gas, housing, and more are causing some shoppers to stay away from the stores on Black Friday weekend unless it's a great deal. Inflation is resulting in fewer sales this year. (LI News12)
