- MMS Community Library is set for the grand opening of the Mastic Beach Satellite Branch on Jan. 14. An ribbon-cutting ceremony begins at 10 a.m. followed by a tour of the new facility and refreshments at 369 Neighborhood Road. (Shirley-Mastic Patch)

- A home fire on Paine Commons in Yaphank injured one person on Wednesday. The fire broke out at 2 p.m. The person was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. (Patch)
