- Mastic-based charity, Caitlyn's Vision will be at Giorgio's Baiting Hollow in Wading River today to give out treats for all kids who show up! Santa Claus will arrive at 1 p.m. Donations of two unwrapped toys, for one boy and one girl, along with two canned food items, will be appreciated. (Shirley-Mastic Patch)
- For those who want to start the year in contact with nature, how about participating in the New Year's Day Hike to Old Inlet? A park ranger will lead participants in this event which is a tradition. Remember to dress for the weather. Participants are asked to meet at the Smith Point County Park Wilderness Visitor Center in Shirley. Visit the link for details. (Patchogue Chamber of Commerce)
- An elderly Long Island man was a victim of a grandson-in-jail scam. The 77-year-old man was contacted by a person who claimed to be a bail bondsman. The victim believed $10,000 cash would help his grandson, who was supposedly charged with DWI. The suspect, who lives in the Bronx, has been arrested for grand larceny and fraud. (Daily Voice)
