Pedestrian Critically Injured In Hit-And-Run

Police are seeking a pickup truck that fled the scene Saturday.

MASTIC, NY — A 54-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Mastic Saturday afternoon, police said.

According to Suffolk police, Transito Sanchez was walking westward from Mastic Road to Herkimer Street when he was struck by a pickup truck at 4:59 p.m. The vehicle, possibly a dark colored Dodge Ram pickup truck with four doors, fled southbound on Mastic Road, police said.

Sanchez, of Mastic, was helped by good Samaritans on scene. He was taken by the Mastic Ambulance Company to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is in critical condition, police said.
