  1. The Mastic Recreation Center had Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilman Dan Panico visit on Aug. 1 to welcome the return of the Town of Brookhaven’s Congregate Meal program. Seniors in our community can enjoy a nutritious meal for $2. (Tri Hamlet)
  2. Another heat wave is here, and for those who want to keep the little ones cool, the MMS Community Library will host a water play program on Friday, Aug. 5, at Shirley Beach. The fun starts at 11 a.m. Kids must be accompanied by their grown-ups. (MMSC Library)
  3. Suffolk County police announced that 75 license plate readers are now available to track crimes in the area. About $1 million in state grants was invested into the new equipment. (News12)
  4. Nonprofit Long Island Cares released a statement showing that food insecurity is higher than last year. According to the food bank records, the number of visitors looking for food between January and June is 43 percent, higher than the previous year. (Patch)
