  1. A Shirley woman is facing second-degree attempted murder charges for intentionally hitting a William Floyd High School student in the parking lot of the Manhattan Bagel Store. According to the police, she confronted a group of teenagers for believing they were involved in a robbery in which her son was a victim. Shirley-Mastic Patch has the story. (Patch)

The new business owner, Gabriela Montoya, once worked at Cococabana Tavern in Shirley but now runs her newly opened La Perla Restaurant and Bar at 65 East Main St. in Riverhead.   • Suffolk Police had a unique rescue mission this week. Officers rescued a dog from frigid Lake Ronkonkoma on Sunday morning! Nobody knows how the puppy ended up in the water, but he was rescued safely, and no injuries were reported. (News 12 Long Island)
