Suffolk To Release Pesticide To Control Mosquito Larvae Next Few Days
The county's Department of Public Works will be using a low altitude helicopter for granular pellet application, officials say.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — The Suffolk County Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control plans to use a helicopter to treat parts of marshes with pesticide to control mosquito larvae on the south shore and Fire Island over the next few days.
The application will run from Wednesday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Should weather conditions prevent completion of the work, it will be continued on the next suitable day.

The method of application will include a low altitude helicopter using granular pellet application with the pesticides VectoPrime FG [Bti, or Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, and Altosid, or Methoprene.
The locations will include Smith Point County Park in Shirley, Fireplace Neck in Brookhaven, Johns Neck Creek, Mastic Beach, Grove Avenue, as well as Stillman, Mud, Abets, Beaverdam, and Hedges creeks.
