Teen Trio Crash Stolen Rideshare Driver's Vehicle, Chased By Officers On Long Island: Cops

They used their fists to punch the man and drag him out of his vehicle, Suffolk police say.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A trio of teen boys beat and robbed a rideshare driver of his vehicle in Medford, then crashed it into a tree in Mastic Beach before leading officers on a chase early Tuesday morning, a Suffolk police spokesperson said.

The scenario unfolded at around 10:15 p.m. in the area of Jamaica Avenue in Medford, with the boys using their fists to punch the man and drag him out of his 2013 Honda, according to police.

The vehicle was later located by officers in the Mastic/Shirley area and after a short pursuit, which involved a police helicopter search from the air, it struck a tree on Wavecrest Drive in Mastic Beach, police said.

The trio ran from the vehicle, but were found a short distance away, police said, adding that they were all charged with second-degree robbery, according to police.

Their names have not been released to protect their status as minors.

The rideshare driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital, police said.
