Teenager Accused Of Stabbing Teen In Back In Suffolk: Police

The 18-year-old stabbed a 17-year-old in the back during a fight at the beach, causing the 17-year-old serious injuries, police say.

SHIRLEY, NY — A Sayville teenager was arrested in connection with stabbing a 17-year-old during a fight at Smith Point Beach in Shirley on Saturday, Suffolk police said.

Alexander Murphy, 18, was on the outer beach of Smith Point Beach in Shirley when he stabbed a 17-year-old Selden teenager in the back with a knife during an altercation at 6:07 p.m., police said.

The victim, who is not being identified because of his age, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.

Murphy was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

He was charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip upon being released from the hospital.
