- Mastic-Moriches-Shirley Community Library will host its first Messy Meetups 'Inside and Out' of 2023 on Wednesday, Jan. 4, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Mastic Recreation Center. This free weekly program is perfect for kids aged 2-7 years. Remember to dress for a mess! (MMSCL)

- Suffolk police reported a good improvement in DWI awareness on Long Island during the New Year's holiday. Police said only fourteen people were arrested for driving under the influence in Suffolk County. There were no deadly car accidents registered last weekend. (News12)
- A woman was held overnight for falsely reporting a bomb and gun threats at Smith Haven Mall on Sunday. According to the police, the 28-year-old who works in one of the stores sent a text to 911 saying there were a bomb and an armed person in the mall. (Newsday/Subscription Required)
