- Congratulations to William Floyd High School student Kayla Gilmore for achieving the 1,000-point milestone in the last basketball game against Riverhead. Coach Rich Sinclair commented on how Gilmore worked hard to turn the varsity team into the best one in Suffolk County. Read the whole story here. (Patch)
- Winter break is almost here. For those looking for activities to keep kids busy and happy, Mastic-Moriches- Shirley Community Library features Winter Break drop-in activities at the Mastic Beach branch. This event is Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 1 to 5 p.m. You don't need to register. All ages are welcome. (MMSCL)
- For those who like to run, the 4 Leaf Clover 4k Walk-Run is set for March 12! Participants will enjoy the scenic view of Tuthill Cove at 9 a.m. Visit the Center Moriches Chamber of Commerce website to sign up! (Center Moriches CofC)
- Long Island Museum in Stony Brook is treating students on winter break to two days of free admission! If you are looking forward to some outings in the community, add up some history exploring the exhibits on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 23-24, from noon to 5 p.m. (LI Museum)

- Nearby Events: Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce will host a Chili Crawl on March 18 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person. More information can be found here. (Port Jefferson CofC)
- There is no question that Long Island is known for its beautiful beaches, restaurants and history, but have you seen the dark side of the island? I recently came across a blog that lists the six creepiest spots on Long Island. Of course, two abandoned psychiatric centers made it on the list! (Malorie's Adventures)
- Save the date for the Mastic Beach Fire House Golf Outing on May 22. The event honors the memory of John Joseph Milazzo. The Shirley-Mastic Patch will remind readers of this community outing as the date approaches. (Mastic Beach Fire Department)
