William Floyd Star Runner Zariel Macchia Wins At State Championship

The freshman Floyd runner took All-New York State and All-Federation titles in the 800 and 1500 meter races last weekend.

MASTIC, NY — William Floyd High School's standout freshman runner Zariel Macchia logged another major win this weekend, becoming All-New York State and All-Federation in the 800 and 1500 meter races.

Macchia competed at the New York State Track and Field Championships at Cicero-North Syracuse High School in Cicero, NY. While qualifying for the state championships, Macchia won the 1,500 and 3,000 meters runs at the Suffolk County qualifier meet, and second in the 800 meters.

Macchia was also named as the winner of the Frank LaBianca Award for the second year in a row, given to the most outstanding distance runner in Suffolk County, voted by the Suffolk County Coaches Association. She will compete this weekend in the 3,000-meter run at the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia, PA, with William Floyd teammate Aaliyah Jordan, competing in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.
