Rebecca Minkoff Turns Greene Street Into Fashion Runway
The fashion designer will have a very futuristic show on Saturday outside her SoHo flagship store.
SOHO, NY — Rebecca Minkoff is bringing her fall 2016 fashion show to the street outside her flagship SoHo store on Saturday — and bringing customers along in virtual reality.
Minkoff will hold her New York Fashion Week celebration showcasing this fall's collection show on Greene Street outside her flagship 96 Greene St. store. It's the latest in a continuing departure from the staid, indoor runway shows which dominated for decades. (Kanye West brought his models to Roosevelt Island this week for what turned out to be an exercise in seeing how long runway models can bake under sunny skies before collapsing.)
But not only will Minkoff's fashion show be held outdoors, it'll be shot in a completely unique way, according to the Los Angeles Times. The show will be filmed live for her website in 360-degree Virtual Reality for people to view on their own glasses, goggles or screens. You will be able to "walk" anywhere on the street in order to get a view of the collection.

“They can wander anywhere on the street. It’s a unique immersion experience,” Uri Minkoff, chief executive officer of Minkoff, told the Times.
The show will begin on Saturday at noon, and the clothes worn will be available immediately in her store. You'll have to actually walk into the store in real life to purchase, though.
