Smorgasburg And Brooklyn Flea To Move Into SoHo

The popular festival-style food market will open in SoHo in August, founders say.

SOHO, NY — Smorgasburg and Brooklyn Flea are moving into Manhattan.

The famed flea and food markets will set up year-round in SoHo come August, Eater New York first reported.

Though there are smaller outposts of Smorgasburg at the South Street Seaport and the Meatpacking District, it will be the first outdoor festival-style location in Manhattan for the markets, which originated in Williamsburg.

They will move into an an empty lot at 76 Varick Street and will also have an indoor market year-round.

"This will be some real placemaking, probably with picnic benches and grass or turf," Smorgasburg co-founder Eric Demby told Eater. "We’re going to try to step up our game a bit with this."

Smorgasburg opened for the season on Saturday in Williamsburg and on Sunday in Prospect Park.

Demby told Eater that the group would seek community board approval for a liquor license to serve alcohol in the space on Varick Street.

Smorgasburg did not immediately respond to an email from Patch seeking more information.
