Where To Celebrate Cinco De Mayo In NYC

Here are the best specials, deals and menus to mark the fifth of May.

MANHATTAN, NY — Restaurants and bars around the city are cooking up special menus and mixing special drinks to mark Cinco de Mayo on Saturday, and Patch has rounded up deals and specials from throughout the city.

Cinco de Mayo marks the Mexican’s army’s victory over France in an 1862 battle. Although a minor holiday in Mexico, the fifth of May has become a popular tradition in the U.S., and dozens of local restaurants and bars are marking the day.

Tijuana Picnic, 151 Essex St.

This Lower East Side restaurant is marking Cinco de Mayo with $14 margaritas. Tijuana Picnic also offers lengthy brunch and dinner menus plus flights of tequila and mezcal.

Añejo, 301 Church St. and 668 Tenth Ave.

Añejo boasts the only tequila sommelier in the city, according to the restaurant, so you can also stop by Tribeca location for signature drinks on Saturday, like the Oaxacan Caipirinha, made with rum, simple syrup, fresh lime juice, club soda and raspberries.

North River Lobster Co., Pier 81 (West 41st Street and 12th Avenue)

If you want to spend May 5 on the water, the North River Lobster Co. will take you on a river cruise complete with lobster tacos and drink specials including $5 house margaritas and $25 margarita pitches. The boat departs from Pier 81 regularly throughout the night, offering you 45 minute cruises along the river.

Threes Brewing Gowanus, 333 Douglass St.

If you're looking for a spot to mark Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby, which fall on the same day this year, Threes Brewing in Gowanus is hosting a Cinco de Derby day to cover all your bases. Cocktails for the day include the "Victor Espenoza," which takes the Derby's classic mint julep drink and mixes in mezcal.


Seamore's On Ice, Gotham West Market (600 11th Ave., Manhattan)

The fifth location of Michael Chernow's seafood eatery will be hawking $5 ceviche tostadas and $2 Tecate beers as part of a Cinco de Mayo celebration at Gotham West Market on Friday and Saturday. A live mariachi band will perform Saturday.

Library of Distilled Spirits, 80 13th St.

The craft cocktail spot will host a special "Derby de Mayo" event on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. The drink menu for the day promises margaritas and mint juleps.

Correction: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated that Añejo would serve a Cinco de Mayo brunch special. The restaurant will not offer a brunch special on Saturday.
