3 Hospitalized After Early AM Wrong-Way Crash On I-84

The out-of-state driver was headed east in the westbound lanes.

KENT, NY — A driver going east on westbound Interstate 84 caused an early morning three-car crash, New York State police said.

The crash happened east of Ludingtonville Road on Wednesday morning, police said.

State police were dispatched at 12:05 a.m. Investigating troopers found Edison Magallanes Castro, 26, of Chicago, IL, had been operating a 2013 Volkswagen Passat traveling east in the westbound lanes and struck both a 2011 Nissan Sentra and a 2014 Acura TSX.

They determined Magallanes Castro was driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving, both unclassified misdemeanors.

The drivers of the Nissan and Acura and a passenger in Magallanes Castro’s vehicle were transported to local area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

Magallanes Castro was issued the appropriate tickets returnable to the Town of Kent Court on Oct. 18.
