61-Year-Old Accused Of Stealing Bike From Kid: Putnam County Sheriff

The Fishkill resident faces a felony charge.

PHILIPSTOWN, NY — A 61-year-old man is accused of stealing a bicycle from a kid in Philipstown, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

A deputy dispatched to North Highlands Town Park for a larceny complaint on Aug. 19 learned from interviews with the juvenile victim and his father that the boy had ridden a bicycle to the park to go fishing. At some point, the YT Jeffsy mountain bike, valued at approximately $2,900, was taken by unknown person(s).

Investigators were brought in and quickly developed a possible suspect, Sheriff Kevin McConville said.

They interviewed 61-year-old Roy J. Bishop of Fishkill on Aug. 20. Bishop admitted to stealing the bicycle and turned it over to them, police said.

He was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony, and issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Philipstown Court, police said.
