BFD Responds to False Alarm at Gas Station

A report of a structure fire at the Valero gas station on Route 22 in Southeast led to a brief evacuation and investigation Tuesday morning, but officials say it was a false alarm.

The smoke that prompted the complainant to make the emergency call was the result of an issue with the heating system, Brewster Fire Department First Assistant Chief Bill Rieg said. There was no fire, he told Patch.

Several BFD volunteers rode to the scene in a fire truck at about 10:45 a.m. A state trooper was also present. 

The area was cleared within about 15 minutes, after officials deemed it secure.
