Blazer Pub Does Good for Children’s Charity Friends of Karen

A North Salem business is holding an auction over this weekend to help raise money for Friends of Karen, a non-profit organization that provides support to families caring for a child with a life-threatening illness.

The Blazer Pub will hold the auction on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17. Bartender Tommy Hunt will climb atop a milk crate to auction off the items and raise thousands of dollars for Friends of Karen.

He and his wait staff will juggle orders for corned beef, cabbage and beer. But it’s the chance to do good for a local charity that makes him proud. 

"What Friends of Karen does is just amazing," he said. "Each year the auction gets bigger, and that means more help for sick children and their families."

Hunt said he can make a difference and wants people to know they can too.

"Tommy [Hunt] is an example of having an angel in an unexpected place," said Judith Factor, executive director of Friends of Karen. "He’s a champion."

Friends of Karen provides support, at no cost, to families caring for a child with a life-threatening illness, from diagnosis through treatment. Driven by compassion for families facing the most difficult experience imaginable, Friends of Karen helps free them of everyday needs and concerns.
