The Brewster Police Department and MTA Police are investigating the theft of a GPS navigation unit from a vehicle parked along Railroad Avenue.
The incident occurred sometime Monday. A Danbury, CT resident parked his 2013 Mercedes in the trackside lot around 9 a.m. When he returned at about 11:20 p.m., he found the front driver side window smashed and a dent on the door below, according to Brewster Police Chief John DelGardo. The GPS unit was gone, and a rock--which officials believe was used to break the window--sat nearby.
Damage is estimated to be several hundred dollars. The vehicle was locked at the time.
DelGardo said car break-ins are "highly unusual" for the Village.
