Byrne Picks Feighery As New Head Of New Putnam County DPW
"He's risen to the occasion numerous times, has lifted spirits and morale in the department," the Putnam County Executive said.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — Thomas Feighery is Putnam County's new commissioner of the new Department of Public Works.
Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne announced the appointment this week. Feighery has been acting administrator of the Department of Highway & Facilities since Byrne took office earlier this year. The county's highways, engineering, and parks divisions were reorganized in July.
"Commissioner Feighery has been an asset to Putnam County for many years and I’m proud to have him continue his service as DPW Commissioner," Byrne said in a statement. "Tommy’s done an excellent job so far, assisting us through a massive storm back in July that caused millions of dollars in damage to county roads and property. He’s risen to the occasion numerous times, has lifted spirits and morale in the department, and continues to display pride in the mission and work conducted by the men and women in DPW. Tommy’s attitude, professionalism, and willingness to work tirelessly for the residents of Putnam County will continue to be a huge benefit for our entire community."

Feighery was chosen after a competitive interview process by a selection committee that included Director of Personnel Paul Eldridge, Deputy Director of Personnel Adriene Iasoni, Chair of Physical Services Committee Legislator Bill Gouldman, Chair of Audit Committee (former Chair of Physical Services) Legislator Joseph Castellano, former Putnam Valley Highway Superintendent Larry Cobb and Deputy County Executive Jim Burpoe.
Feighery’s nomination must now be confirmed by a majority vote of the Putnam County Legislature.

"I foresee no problem getting him confirmed," Castellano said. "Feighery’s extensive knowledge of our county’s infrastructure, coupled with his dedication to the community make him an excellent choice for the role of Commissioner of DPW."
Feighery previously served as Deputy County Executive under former County Executive MaryEllen Odell after serving as a project manager in the County’s Highway & Facilities Department. He has extensive experience in building and construction management, having supervised commercial, residential, and tunnel construction for over thirty years in Manhattan with Local 147 Sandhogs. Feighery also brings experience as a small business owner from operating Fiddler’s Green Pub for 35 years before selling it to the present owners.
"I’m honored to be appointed as Commissioner and thank County Executive Byrne for this continued opportunity," said Feighery. "We have an incredible team of men and women here at DPW and a lot of exciting projects underway. Residents can rest easy knowing we’re committed to making sure high quality work will get done in a timely and efficient manner."
