'Combative' Trespasser Arrested At Middle School During School Day

The Putnam County Sheriff said school activities were not affected and students were never in any danger.

MAHOPAC, NY — A school resource officer acted quickly after spotting an unauthorized visitor to campus during the school day.

On Monday, around 9:20 a.m, a stranger was noticed by the school resource officer (SRO) on the grounds of the Mahopac Middle School. The officer challenged the suspected trespasser who refused to leave and would not give a reason for being on school property, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

As the officer was trying to get the facts, the trespasser reportedly became combative and was then arrested for trespassing on school grounds.

"The situation was handled quickly and efficiently by the SRO and school staff and did not impact any school operations," the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said in a statement released on Monday. "This was an isolated incident and there is no cause for any alarm."
