DEC Talks Williams Service Station

Bob and Gary Shultz, the owners at Williams Service Station, a longtime Brewster business, say they will be closing their doors soon.
Several community members have sounded off on the news, which involves an issue with the New York State Department of Conservation. Bob and Gary would not elaborate, but here's a statement provided earlier this week by Lisa King, a spokesperson for the DEC:

"DEC negotiated a no-penalty consent order with the station owners in July 2009. The owners were required to clean up the contamination, empty all underground tanks within six months and remove the tanks within nine months. The spill has not been properly remediated. The facility is continuing to operate two of the tanks that were required to be removed. DEC recently met with the owners of the property but were informed that the owners are in bankruptcy proceedings. DEC is evaluating its options to ensure that the spill is properly remediated without further impact to the environment."
