Driver Resists DWI Arrest, Troopers And Taser Provide Backup: Sheriff

A stop for erratic driving on I-684 became a physical test of wills between a suspect & police, according to the Putnam County Sheriff.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — An early morning traffic stop turned into a fraught situation requiring backup from New York State Police and the use of a Taser, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office says that on Sunday, around 4 a.m., a deputy saw a vehicle driving south on I-684, near exit 10. The driver was unable to maintain their lane of traffic, according to cops. The deputy was concerned about the erratic driving and stopped the car. The driver, 36-year-old Dimas Minero Argueta, of Norwalk, was found to be intoxicated, according to police.

When the deputy attempted to arrest Argueta for driving while intoxicated, he began to violently resist, the sheriff's office said. When the situation escalated, the help of a New York State Police trooper was required, along with the use of a Taser to subdue the suspect.
