Drivers In Deadly Freightliner Head-On Collision With CRV Are ID'd By Authorities

The Honda was headed east on State Route 312, when it crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a Freightliner, police said.

TOWN OF SOUTHEAST, NY — Authorities have identified the drivers involved in a deadly head-on crash this morning.

At 7:46 a.m., troopers responded to State Route 312, in the town of Southeast, after receiving a report of a serious crash.

New York State Police say a Honda CRV driven by 74-year-old Eleana S. Silk, of Carmel, was traveling east when it crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 2023 Freightliner driven by 57-year-old Richard G. Medina, of New Fairfield, Connecticut.

State police say that Silk was pronounced dead at the scene, while Medina was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing, according to NYSP.
