During Traffic Stop, Carmel Police Find 4-Year-Old Without Seat Belt

A 36-year-old Peekskill man with a suspended license was behind the wheel of a vehicle carrying a young boy who was not in a car seat and was not wearing a seat belt, officials say.

Carmel Police Officer Thomas Johanson pulled over the vehicle, a blue Chevrolet truck, on Route 6 at about 3:15 p.m. Friday, after he noticed the driver was not wearing a seat belt. During the traffic stop he observed a 4-year-old boy in the cab of the truck "who was not secured with a seat belt or a booster seat," authorities say.

The driver was charged with misdemeanor third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and two seat belt violations.

He was released pending a June 25 appearance in Carmel Justice Court.
