Read on for information on cooling centers.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Putnam and several other counties until 4:45 a.m. Friday.

This type of warning is issued when the humidity and heat are going to make it feel like it is 105 degrees — or more. The warning is in effect starting at noon. After it expires, an excessive heat watch is slated to be in effect from Friday afternoon through the evening.

Officials are also issuing an air quality alert, which means that air quality will reach unhealthy levels. Officials are suggesting that people stay in air-conditioning during the afternoon and early-evening hours. Poor air quality can aggravate asthma, cause shortness of breath and throat irritation.
