'Highly Intoxicated' Stranger Tried To Enter 2 Homes: Police

Anyone with additional information about the bizarre late night incident is being asked to contact Carmel detectives.

MAHOPAC, NY — A stranger gave two families in a normally quiet neighborhood quite the scare, when police say he tried to enter their homes.

The Town of Carmel Police Department said that on March 26, around 2:20 a.m., Putnam County 911 alerted them to a report of a possible attempted burglary taking place on Wayacross Road.

After receiving an additional call from a resident on Archer Road, police were able to apprehend a 31-year-old male resident of Wayacross Road, in the back yard of the Archer Road home.

The man seemed to be highly intoxicated, cops said. With the help of Putnam County Sheriff's Officer deputies, he was taken by EMS to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Police say that it does not seem that the man was able to gain entry into any of the houses.
