Increased Police Presence In 2 Putnam School Districts Friday

There were threats for which arrests were made in the Brewster and Carmel districts.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — There is an increased presence of law enforcement at schools in Carmel and Brewster in Putnam County.

Following two arrests, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said it will be onsite in both districts Friday, News 12 reported.

The increased police presence is aimed to making people feel safer on the school campuses, according to officials.

On Thursday, the sheriff’s office said a former Brewster High School student was arrested for making threats against a current student.

The sheriff’s office said the former student lives outside the county, but was quickly identified, located and issued an appearance ticket for Putnam County Family Court.

Also on Thursday, a juvenile student at the George Fischer Middle School was arrested around 3 a.m. after authorities received a report of a threat of violence at the middle school.

The student was referred to Family Court based on their age.
