Lake Carmel Treated for Algae

Anti-algae chemical was applied and the lake is open for use.

The water at Lake Carmel was treated today for blue-green algae.

The lake had been closed for one day last week by the Lake Carmel Park District because of the algae.

LIFE Inc. treated the lake with Cutrine Plus Ultram spraying the chemical into the water from a small motor boat. The chemical kills algae, and although there are no restrictions on lake use with it, the beaches were closed while it was being applied. Posters around the lake state that the treatment was taking place and that there were no restrictions on swimming, boating, or other use of the water.

Algae blooms shut down the use of Lake Carmel for several days last summer. The park district used chemicals to kill the algae then that required closing the lake to use for a few days.
