Orange County Man Arrested After Wild Pursuit Throughout Putnam County
Carmel High School was put on a temporary hold in place, which was lifted once the Orange County man was in custody.
PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — A Hudson Valley man is in custody after leading police on a harrowing chase this morning, crisscrossing Putnam County and triggering emergency protocols at a nearby school in the process.
Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville announced the arrest of an Orange County man after leading police from multiple jurisdictions on a pursuit through Putnam County.
On Wednesday, around 11:30 a.m., Putnam County 911 received several calls reporting a man in the roadway on I-84 westbound, near I-684, who was attempting to stop cars.

When a sheriff's deputy and a New York State Police trooper arrived, the 34-year-old man from New Windsor, got into a vehicle that was parked nearby and attempted to flee.
He then led several sheriff's deputies and troopers on a pursuit westbound on I-84, then eastbound, and then back westbound, where he managed to avoid spike strips that were set up to attempt to stop him.

He then exited at Route 311 and continued on local roads in Patterson, Kent, and Carmel, where he eventually stopped after hitting a Carmel Police Department vehicle on Route 6, south of Baldwin Lane in Mahopac.
The suspect was taken into custody, and the sheriff's office says that the investigation is ongoing.
The Carmel Police Department says that Carmel High School was put on a temporary hold in place during the pursuit, out of an abundance of caution. The hold in place was lifted once the fleeing man was in custody.
