NWS Issues Flash Flood Warning for Putnam

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Putnam, and it's in effect until 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

"Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low-lying spots," the warning reads. "Do not underestimate the power of flood waters. Only a few inches of rapidly flowing water can quickly carry away your vehicle."

The warning—which advises folks to contact police if they encounter flooding—also affects Rockland and Westchester counties.

Brewster will see steady rain and possible thunderstorms through Thursday, according to forecasts. Friday will likely bring more of the same, and showers will probably continue throughout the weekend.
