Obituary: Helen Madeline Johnsen, 92

Helen Madeline Johnsen of Brewster, NY, passed away Monday July 31, 2023, in Somers, NY at the age of 92.

Helen was born November 10, 1930, in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Saverio and Giovannia DeFrancesco. She graduated from Bay Ridge High School. On June 6, 1954, she married Walter B. Johnsen at Regina Pacis Church in Brooklyn. Walter predeceased Helen on April 10, 2000.

Helen moved to Brewster eleven years ago.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Audrey Smith and her husband Steven of Brewster, NY; Elaine Frisone and her husband Steven of Staten Island, NY; grandchildren Matthew, James-Luke, Zachary, Lauren Filocomo and her husband Joseph and Christina; great-grandchildren Carmine Vincent and Joseph Anthony; nieces Christine Becker and her husband Ron, Katherine Carr, and Karen Wassall and nephew Paul Johnsen and his wife Barbara. She was predeceased by her grandchildren Jennifer Elaine and Steven Michael.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday August 3, 2023, at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster, NY at 11:00 am. Helen will be buried with her husband Walter in Calverton National Cemetery at a later date.
