Obituary: Margaret Dempsey of Brewster

Margaret ‘Margie’ Dempsey of Brewster, NY, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the age of 83.

Margie was born June 19, 1940, in New York, NY, daughter of the late James and Nora (Dunn) Winkle. Margie graduated from St. Vincent Ferrer High School in NY, NY.

On April 30, 1966, she married the love of her life, Dennis Dempsey, at Queen of Angels church in Sunnyside, Queens.

Margie worked as a secretary for 30 years before retiring in 2009. She loved to knit Irish Sweaters and gift them to all her loved ones. She was a member of the Southeast Seniors and a weekly communicant of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church.

Margie is survived by her two children, Kathleen Johnson of Albany, NY and Dennis M. Dempsey of Brewster, NY; her two grandchildren, Amanda and Alyssa Johnson, both of Albany, NY and her sister, Judy Burke of Brewster, NY as well as many treasured nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Dennis in 1975 and by her sister, Kathleen Congema of East Meadow, NY in 2016.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday August 19, 2023, at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster, NY at 10:00 am followed by the interment in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery in Brewster. Calling hours will be held on Friday August 18, 2023, at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
