Obituary: Richard F. Blauvelt of North Salem

Richard F. Blauvelt of North Salem, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday July 23, 2023, at the age of 80.

He was born September 14, 1942, in Mt. Vernon, NY, son of the late Elmer and Irene (Mericka) Blauvelt. He graduated from Edison High School in Mt. Vernon in 1962, then in 1963 he joined the Mt. Vernon Fire Department where he worked until retiring as Deputy Chief in 2003. Richard married Vincenza Piscopo in Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Vernon on April 8, 1972. They moved to North Salem in 1970. Richard was a Boy Scout, a life member of the North Salem Ambulance Corp. and had driven a bus for North Salem Schools.

On December 4, 2017, Vincenza passed away. Richard is survived by his daughter Jennifer Bruno and her husband Jon of Brewster, NY; sons John Blauvelt and his wife Stacy of North Salem, NY, Jason Blauvelt and his wife Kendra of Carmel, NY, Justin Blauvelt of North Salem, NY and grandchildren Johnny, Jordan and Jayla.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday July 28, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Church in Somers, NY at 10:00 am followed by the interment in June Cemetery in North Salem. Calling Hours will be held on Thursday July 27, 2023, at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
