PATTERSON, NY — Police have released new details about the standoff with a man in full camouflage who was accused of menacing his neighbors.

Acting Putnam County Sheriff Brian Hess released new details about the "tense barricade situation" that took place last week at a Town of Patterson condominium complex.

Around 5 p.m., on Oct. 16, deputies responded to the complex after receiving a report that a suspect dressed in full camouflage, later identified as 47-year-old Nicholas Rodriguez, of Patterson, menaced a neighbor with what seemed to be a firearm.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team (SRT) and Hostage Negotiations Team were activated and responded to the scene.

Around 9:30 p.m., Rodriguez was taken into custody.

Soon after, a fire was found inside the home. Officials say that it is unclear at this time whether the fire was accidental or intentional, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Rodriguez was charged with felony second-degree assault, felony second-degree attempted assault, felony third-degree criminal mischief, and misdemeanor second-degree menacing.

He was arraigned in the Town of Patterson Court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.

"This was a dangerous and dynamic situation that required a disciplined and coordinated response," Acting Sheriff Hess said. "I commend the professionalism and courage of all deputies and responding personnel who helped bring this incident to a safe conclusion."

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office thanked the Town of Kent Police Department, the Town of Carmel Police Department, the Village of Brewster Police Department, the New York State Police, the Patterson Fire Department, and all assisting fire and EMS agencies.

The sheriff says the investigation remains active, and additional details will be released when they become available.
