Village Meeting to Include NY-Alert Presentation

The portal allows users, whose information is kept confidential, to receive updates on everything from weather to road closures.

Folks hoping to learn more about NY-Alert, the emergency communication system provided by the state, have the opportunity to do so Wednesday evening.

A presentation on the free system is the first item on the agenda for the Oct. 17 Village of Brewster Board of Trustees meeting. Tom Lannon and Eileen Hurley of Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services are listed as speakers.

"NY Alert is used to provide all-hazards alert and notification to enhance emergency preparedness," the agenda reads. "Notifications may include severe weather warnings, significant highway closures, hazardous materials spills, and many other emergency conditions. By signing up for NY-Alert, you can receive warnings and emergency information via the web, your cell phone, email and other technologies."
