HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

Volunteers to Play with Kids
Neighbors Link is looking for volunteers to play with children while their parents participate in an event at Neighbors Link's Yonkers center. Volunteers will keep the kids busy with games, crafts, Play Doh, books, and other materials provided by the center. Neighbors Link childcare staff will be present to provide support. This is a great opportunity for teens looking to complete community service hours.
Date: 5/20 and 5/22 from 5:45-8 p.m.

Meal Box Volunteers
Join the Second Chance Foods kitchen on Wednesday afternoons to help sort and package boxes of healthy meals and fresh groceries comprised of "rescued" food. These meal boxes will be distributed to more than 300 neighbors in need per week. This is perfect for volunteers 16+.
Date: 5/22 from 12-3 p.m.; Wednesdays

Trail Maintenance Volunteers
Ward Acres Park is a 62-acre passive-use park in northern New Rochelle featuring several miles of trails through wooded and pasture areas. A group of seasoned volunteers maintains and improves the trail system in the park. Volunteers are needed to assist the seasoned trail maintenance team to perform regular maintenance, including invasive plant removal, water channeling, trail rerouting, erosion protection, and other projects. Volunteers must be 18+ and should be capable of moderately strenuous work. Workdays may be canceled in the event of inclement weather.
Date: 5/26 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; 2nd and 4th Sundays
