Westchester Man Abandoned Dogs In Fahnstock Park: Putnam SPCA

SPCA detectives received assistance from the Westchester-Putnam Real Time Crime Center and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — Three dogs were found July 13 wandering the Sunken Mine Road area of Putnam Valley, which is part of Clarence Fahnestock State Park.

The Putnam County SPCA Dog Control Division retrieved the three female collie/lab mixes, who were covered in fleas and ticks, and brought them to the Putnam Valley Dog Shelter.

When the dogs were shared on social media as lost, the Putnam County SPCA received one tip, with limited information, that the dogs had been abandoned by their owner.

Over the course of a three-week investigation, SPCA detectives honed in on a suspect, using multiple sources, including the Westchester-Putnam Real Time Crime Center and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

On Aug. 1, Putnam County SPCA detectives were able to locate Marcelino Robledo Guardado at his residence on Grant Street in North Salem and interviewed him regarding the alleged abandonment and animal cruelty.

Robledo Guardado acknowledged that he abandoned the dogs in the Sunken Mine Area, SPCA enforcement chief Ken Ross said.

He was charged with three counts of allegedly abandoning the dogs and three counts of alleged animal neglect under New York State's Agriculture & Markets Law.
