New Sunset Park School Location Announced By Councilman

The new school is going in on the corner of 36th Street and Fifth Avenue.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — A new school is coming to Sunset Park on the corner of 36th Street and Fifth Avenue.

City Councilman Carlos Menchaca, whose district includes Sunset Park, made the announcement late last week. It's the fourth new school that's been announced during Menchaca's four-year first term in office, moves meant to help ease overcrowding in the area.

"Finding new school sites in Sunset Park is an urgent priority," Menchaca said in a statement. "I am proud that for the first time in decades, we are making real progress.

"In addition to the three Sunset Park locations we’ve secured in the last two years, a fourth site at 36th Street and Fifth Avenue is now set to become a school for about 400 students. Recent progress is encouraging, but we have a lot more work to do. Parents, students, educators and local school advocates can count on my full support as we continue our work to relieve our area’s school crowding emergency."

Menchaca's office worked with Community Board 7 and the city's School Construction Authority to get the deal done.
