Carlos Menchaca Wins NYC City Council District 38 Election

Menchaca will represent Sunset Park and Red Hook for another four years.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — City Councilman Carlos Menchaca easily won re-election to his seat representing District 38 on Wednesday night.

Menchaca defeated challenger Allan Romaguera 83 to 7 percent, according to the New York Times.

He faced Romaguera along with independent candidates Carmen Hurlbert and Delvis Valdes in the general election. Menchaca will serve a second and final four-year term representing Red Hook and Sunset Park on the city council.

New Yorkers took to the polls on Tuesday in the general election for citywide positions including mayor, comptroller and public advocate.

For mayor, Democrat Bill de Blasio ran against Republican Nicole Malliotakis and independents Bo Dietl and Sal Albanese.

Public Advocate Tish James faced Republican Juan Carlos Polanco, Michael O'Reilly and James Lane. Comptroller Scott Stringer was up against Republican Michael Faulkner, Julia Willebrand and Alex Merced.
