SEE: More Bike Lanes Proposed In Sunset Park

Here's what the DOT is proposing in the neighborhood. What do you think?

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — The city's Department of Transportation wants to add cross-town bike lanes on a handful of streets in Sunset Park to better connect the inland parts of the neighborhood with the waterfront.

The bike lanes would run along 43rd and 44th streets in the north and 57th and 58th streets in the south part of the neighborhood. It will remove a total of 10 parking spots, at intersections along Second and First avenues.

The bike lanes will help connect the neighborhood to Bush Terminal Park and the Brooklyn Army Terminal, including the new ferry stop there.

Here's the specifics of the city's plan:

Two-way, parking protected bike lanes between First and Second avenues on 43rd Street to create a gateway to Bush Terminal Park. This will narrow the car portion of the street from two lanes to one:

Painting "Chevrons" — indicating a shared car and bike lane — on the four streets between Second and Third avenues:

Narrowing the car lane, and adding a dedicated bike lane, on the four streets between Third and Seventh avenues, along with 41st Street between Fifth and Seventh avenues:

The proposals were presented to Community Board 7's transportation committee, along with the community organization UPROSE.

CB7's full board will vote whether to recommend the plans at its meeting later this month.
