Sunset Park Man Who Chopped Off Wife's Arm Arrested, Police Say

Yong Lu was charged with attempted murder after police said he chopped off his wife's arm and two fingers in their home.

SUNSET PARK, NY — The man accused of chopping off his pregnant wife's arm and two fingers inside their Sunset Park home was arrested near Niagara Falls over the weekend, according to police and reports.

Yong Lu, 35, was picked up by police inside a Niagara Falls food court on Saturday night after a nearly three-day manhunt, the Niagara Gazette reported. He was brought back to Brooklyn on Sunday and charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, the NYPD said.

On Thursday, Lu got into a fight with his 35-year-old wife inside their Sunset Park home near 55th Street and Fifth Avenue and attacked her with a knife at about 12:19 p.m., police said.

He chopped off her right arm from below her bicep and cut off two fingers from her left hand then fled the home before police could arrive, authorities said.

His wife was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, police said. Doctors there were able to reattach her arm, the New York Post reported.

Lu fled upstate and tried to leave the country, asking a bus driver heading to Canada to let him hide in a luggage compartment to get in, the Niagara Gazette reported. The bus driver refused.

He bought a life jacket from Walmart and planned to swim to Canada to avoid arrest, the paper reported.
